Women who marry into animal agriculture find themselves helping with day-to-day livestock work while navigating an environment where baseline knowledge might be assumed or it feels intimidating asking general questions. To support these women and build confidence around common cattle production decisions, Nebraska Extension in partnership with the Nebraska Women in Agriculture Program will host a four-session webinar series, Women in Livestock: Learning the Why Behind the Work, beginning Monday, March 2, 2026.

The webinars will be held on the first four Mondays in March, March 2, 9, 16, and 23, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Central time. Each session will focus on foundational concepts that help explain the “why” behind everyday ranch work.

Topics include:

  • Understanding Your Herd: Types of operations, categories of cattle, and the annual production cycle
  • Breeding Basics: What to notice, what to ask, and why it matters with heifer and bull selection, EPD concepts, and how goals shape breeding decisions
  • Nutrition & Body Condition Scoring: Nutritional needs across the year, body condition score targets, and simple observation skills
  • Navigating Resources: UNL tools, rental and custom rates, market information, and ways to stay informed

Each one-hour session will feature practical explanations, examples, and time for participant interaction and questions. The series is open to anyone but is especially geared toward women who married into agriculture and stepped into livestock roles later in life.

There is no cost to attend, but registering in advance is required. To register, click here. A recording of each session will be made available to registered participants following each session. All attendees are welcome to participate regardless of race, gender, or any other protected status.
